Leadership
Executive Director
David Topham joined the faculty at the ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é Medical Center in 1999 and, in 2009, was appointed Vice Provost and Executive Director of HSCCI. Topham provides strategic direction for HSCCI and facilitates the development of research projects between University scientists and corporate partners.
Topham is also Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, a member of the David H. Smith Center for Vaccine Biology and Immunology, and Co-Director of the . He has served on IBM's Global Pandemic Steering Committee. His research interests include immune responses to influenza and experimental vaccines and computational modeling of the immune system.
Associate Director
Benjamin L. Miller completed his undergraduate studies at Miami University (Ohio), receiving degrees in Chemistry (B.S.), Mathematics (A.B.), and German (A.B.) in 1988. He next moved to Stanford University, where he carried out his Ph.D. research in Chemistry. Following a stint as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at Harvard, he joined the ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é faculty in 1996.
His group’s expertise in molecular recognition, combinatorial chemistry, nanotechnology, and sensing has been applied to the development of novel optical biosensor platforms and synthetic compounds targeting several human diseases. In the context of these projects, Miller’s group relies on a variety of computational resources for small molecule conformational analysis and quantum chemistry, as well as modeling fluid flows in “lab on a chip” devices and the interaction of light with candidate optical sensor designs. He is currently Professor of Dermatology, Biochemistry and Biophysics, and Biomedical Engineering.
