LGBTQ at ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é

A collage of headshots of LGBTQ faculty and staff.

In honor of National Coming Out Day, the University's LGBTQ Advocacy Committee shares the result of its "UR Out" photo project, which invited LGBTQ employees to participate by sharing a photo. The project is a visible representation that helps to foster a sense of community while also letting LGBTQ students, coworkers, and patients know that they are welcome here at the University.

Of those pictured, approximately 46% are from The ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é Medical Center; 19% are from the School of Arts and Sciences; 12% are from Central Administration; 10% are from University Student Life, 9% are from the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and 6% are from the Libraries. We also had participation from folks in Dining, Eastman School of Music, School of Nursing, Simon School of Business, Environmental Health and Safety, Friends of Strong, Advancement/Alumni Relations, Hajim School of Engineering, Office of Equity and Inclusion, International Services Office, University Health Service/University Counseling Center, and the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. Most of our participating LGBTQ employees have been with the University for 0-5 years (59%) followed by 6-10 years (18%), and 11-15 years (10%). For the remaining, 6% of those pictured have worked with us for 16-20 years, while 4% worked here 21-25 years, and the final 3% have been with us 26+ years.

There are also a wide variety of identities represented. When we asked folks about their identities (with the opportunity to check as many options as represented them and to write in any additional – so the number adds up to more than 100%) here is what we learned: about 44% are queer and another 30% are gay, 27% are lesbian, 23% are bisexual and another 14% are pansexual, 20% are non-binary, 14% are trans, 10% are trans-fem, 7% are asexual, and 3% are trans-masc. We also have folks who are aegosexual, agender, aromantic, bi-gender, demisexual, gender****, genderqueer, leather, and panromantic. We love to see what a beautiful rainbow of colleagues we have here at the ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é!
