- As both teacher and coach, served the Department of Sports and Recreation for 35 years
- Coached an unbeaten men's basketball team in 1941-42 and an unbeaten baseball team in 1945
- Between basketball (247 victories) and baseball (145 victories), he won nearly 400 games
- From 1945 until his retirement, he was Chairman of the Department of Physical Education and Director of Athletics
- Selected to the Helms Hall of Fame
- The basketball arena, the Palestra, was dedicated in his name on December 6, 1968
