Post-Graduate:

  • Worked as a copy boy at The New York Sun before being drafted into the U.S. Army
  • Served with the 98th Army Infantry Division from 1942-46
  • Worked for three years in Tokyo, Japan as a Publications Analyst
  • Worked for two years as a sub-editor on the North American Desk of Reuters News Agency in London
  • Joined The New York Times in 1955 where he remained for nearly 30 years, mainly as a copy editor on the foreign news desk
  • From 1963-66, served as foreign correspondent based in Tokyo, covering Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and the Philippines
  • Covered swimming in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo
  • Retired in 1984
  • Passed away in April, 2003
