Everett J. Phillips

  • Joined the University in 1959 as an athletic trainer after serving on Olympic Training Duty with the New York Athletic Club in single and double sculls (rowing)
  • Coached multiple sports at Mount Hermon School while being the assistant athletics director in 1956
  • Named ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é’s indoor and outdoor track coach in 1960
  • ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é won five New York State track and field championships (1963-68)
  • Was a doctoral student and assistant track coach at the University of Oregon in 1967-1969
  • Earned his EdD in 1972
  • Returned to ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é and began the first official cross country program in 1969
  • Served as a chairman of the Dept. of Health, Physical Education, Athletics, and Dance at SUNY Fredonia in 1970-1995
  • Was the head track coach at Fredonia in 1971-1974 and was the assistant track coach in 1975-1994
  • The teams won 13 indoor and 19 outdoor SUNYAC championships, 22 NY state titles
  • Was the Cross Country Coach at Fredonia in 1971-1994
  • Finished third at the 1983 NCAA Championships
  • Was the women’s cross country coach at Fredonia for three years
  • Lives in North Carolina with his wife, Shirley, and their five children and three grandchildren
