TLC Tutors
[Application deadline on November 10th, 2024]
TLC Tutors take the one-credit, semester-long seminar CASC 312: Supportive Practices in Peer Education, and can subsequently offer individual and small group tutoring in appropriate subjects through the College Tutoring Program housed in the Genesee Hall Tutoring Zone.
There is no strict GPA requirement to apply; however, preference will be given to applicants who performed well in the courses that they propose to tutor in. We particularly encourage students who have struggled academically but ultimately succeeded in their coursework to apply.
Applicants must be available during the semester for which they are hired to participate in the CASC 312 seminar on Fridays at either:
- 11:25 am - 12:15 pm.
OR
- 2:00pm to 2:50pm.
Any scheduling changes that prohibit prospective tutors from attending the CASC 312 seminar will result in any offer of employment being rescinded.
All applicants should also demonstrate passion for the subject matter and want to help others both to learn the subject well and become better learners.
Please visit the Become a Tutor page for more information and instructions for applying.
If you have any questions, please email TLC tutoring at tutoring@rochester.edu with any questions.
Study Zone Leaders
[Applications Closed]
The Study Zone is a low-distraction quiet study space within the Learning Center suite in Dewey Hall. SZLs provide support to students using the space in the form of goal-setting before and debriefing after each study session. Please note that any future job offers will be contingent on a new SZL's availability to enroll in CASC 319 (Study Zone Leadership), a one-credit training course for the position.
For more information about the program's purpose and practicalities, please visit the Study Zone page. Please email Kyle Trenshaw at kyle.trenshaw@rochester.edu with any questions.
Study Group Leaders
Currently open for applications for Spring 2025 positions until November 15th! Check JobLink for more details!
Study Groups are weekly sessions throughout the semester where students can study collaboratively with one another under the guidance of a peer leader. Please note that to serve as a SGL, you must EITHER:
- have already completed CASC 312 (TLC Tutor) or CASC 352 (PLTL Workshop Leader) by the time of hire
OR
- be available to enroll in CASC 317 (Study Group Leadership), a one-credit training course for the position.
CASC 317 is held from 3:25 to 4:25 p.m. on Fridays each semester in which SGLs are hired.
For more information about the program's purpose and practicalities, please visit the Study Groups page. Email Kyle Trenshaw at kyle.trenshaw@rochester.edu with any questions.
