Incoming Students
Interim dean of students, Anne-Marie Algier, letter to incoming students (PDF):
Hello Yellowjackets;
A warm welcome to our newest members of the hive and happy to have our returning students back. It is too quiet when you are not all here “buzzing” about. The beginning of the academic year is a time for a fresh start. I hope you can pursue your passions inside and outside the classroom and take advantage of the many resources the university has to offer, especially engaging with your interesting and intelligent peers.
My office is located on the fifth floor of Wilson Commons and offers support for any student life concern. If we cannot help directly, we will guide you to the resource that will help meet your need. I am excited about the direction student life is headed under the new leadership of Vice President John Blackshear. His energy and passion for serving all students and creating an environment where they can thrive is contagious. Building on the University’s strategic plan, Boundless Possibility, I have no doubt both undergraduate and graduate students will be offered the educational experiences that allow them to be the leaders we need for the future.
As an institution we hold close our Meliora Vision and Values. Each year we highlight one value to focus on to help our community be ever better. This is the year of ACCOUNTABILITY—"we are each responsible for making our community ever better, through our actions, our words, and our dealings with others". I encourage you all to be proud members of this community, ensuring that your choices can have a positive impact on you and those around you.
To help our community members be good citizens we have a student code of conduct that you should familiarize yourself with. If you have any questions or need clarifications, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Best wishes for a great year!
Anne-Marie
