Housing for Transfer Students
Most ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é students live on campus, and ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é welcomes transfer students to join our residential undergraduate community as much as possible. However, we cannot always accommodate every transfer student who wants to live on campus.
Typically, we are able to offer campus housing to a small amount of transfer students each fall and spring semester. Spring transfer students may find it easier to obtain housing on campus. Transfer students are encouraged to fill out the application as soon as they receive it.
Transfer students who apply for fall term housing are not likely to hear about housing until after July 15. Some students may not get their housing assignments until close to or after classes begin. Students starting in the spring term will receive their housing assignment in late December/early January.
Campus Housing
Transfer students seeking on-campus housing must complete an application, available on our . For detailed guidance, including written instructions and a video tutorial, please refer to the information provided below.
Transfer and Exchange Housing Application Instructions (pdf)
If you are interested in campus housing, getting your application in quickly is important. Assignments are made on a rolling basis and we do our best to make offers for on-campus housing quickly.
Students entering as transferring first-years (and sometimes sophomores) will have a higher priority for housing placement ahead of students entering at more advanced class standing. Students moving to ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é from out of the area, including international students, will have priority over students who live locally.
We will do our best to place as many transfer students in housing as possible.
Students planning to live off campus may find meal plan information on .
Gender-Inclusive Campus Housing Options
The ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é currently provides opportunities for upper-class students to live in single bedrooms in apartments and suites in mixed groups, and also any standard double rooms and suite double rooms on coed floors in upper-class housing. This housing option allows students to select roommates regardless of their sex, gender, or gender expression. Any upper-class student can select into this option during housing selection for single bedrooms in suites and apartments. For double bedrooms, upper-class students must still contact housingassignments@reslife.rochester.edu.
This option is discouraged for those students involved in an intimate/romantic relationship.
Check-In Information
Check-in information is provided as part of the letter that notifies you of your housing assignment. Read that carefully and plan accordingly. Early arrival for transfer students is limited in the fall semester and is not an option for the start of the spring semester.
Off-Campus Housing
Off-campus housing options for students in ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é are affordable, safe, can offer parking and/or public transportation options, and come in a range of prices and lifestyles. Students seeking off-campus housing can depend on support from the off-campus housing staff while finding a good match for their educational plans.
If you have secured off-campus housing, please let us know so that we can remove you from our list. Once you accept a housing assignment offer, you have entered into a legally binding housing contract with the Office of Residential Life and Housing Services.
See the off-campus housing page for more information.
