Postdoctoral Association

Resources

UR Postdoctoral Association was established in 2006 to provide career development and networking opportunities, as well as professional recognition specifically for postdoctoral appointees.

The Future Faculty Initiative offers participants information and insights not traditionally included in their curriculums, aspects of the faculty role including academic career paths, learner-centered teaching, mentoring, learning assessment, diversity, etc. The series also facilitates cross disciplinary interaction as doctoral candidates and post-docs from throughout the University have the opportunity to become acquainted and interact on issues of common interest. These workshops are all about preparing them for a career in academia (job prep, teaching, mentoring, assessment, etc.) Wendi Heinzelman is the ASE contact for the college and is very active in this initiative.

The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) is an NSF center for learning and teaching in higher education. CIRTL uses graduate education as the leverage point to develop a nationwide faculty committed to implementing and advancing effective teaching practices for diverse student audiences as part of successful professional careers. CIRTL's goal is to improve undergraduate learning at every college and university, and thereby to increase diversity especially in STEM fields and the STEM literacy of the nation.

The UCIS Cluster for Leadership in Education is an informal aggregation of faculty, staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows who are committed to the idea that prospective faculty should learn something about the research literature about learning before they leave the ÂÒÂ×Ç¿¼é to start teaching.

The Center provides career and internship planning, coaching, programming and academically linked career counseling, as well as employer relations services and graduate and professional school advising for students and alumni.

Offer a variety of courses for employees at UR on Diversity Training, Effective Communication, time management, leadership and supervision, presentation skills, understanding generational differences in the workplace, working in a harassment-free environment, etc.

Every third Friday of the month, the Center for Integrated Research Computing hosts a research symposium (known as the CIRC Symposium), where faculty, staff, and student researchers convene to learn about research projects utilizing the center's resources, meet potential collaborators, and learn about new technologies and trends in research computing.
